Spenser

Spenser2

My name is Spenser and I’m looking for my forever home.  I’m named after Robert Urich in “Spenser for Hire” because of my dashing good looks and inquisitive nature!  I was taken in by an all-breed rescue in New Mexico and was in rough shape.  My beautiful brindle coat was matted to the skin, and I weighed only twelve pounds.  I’m now up to 16 pounds, and recently became a Texan!  I love to walk and am coming along well with my leash training.  I ride well in the car, am friendly with other dogs, and am very affectionate with people.  I am reported to be housebroken, did very well with the six resident dogs in my foster home in New Mexico, but couldn’t resist chasing the resident cats!  My energy level is typical of a nine month old young lad.

While in rescue I have been neutered and my shots have been brought current.  I tested heartworm and tick fever negative, and will be getting a HomeAgain Microchip and a flu vaccination in the next few days.  The vet says I will be in tip-top shape once I put on another couple of pounds.

If you have lots of love and patience to give a sweet youngster like me I will return your love many times over!  To apply to adopt me, please go to www.texasscottierescue.com and fill out the online application.  You can indicate in the comments section that you are interested in Spenser with West Texas Scottie Rescue.  My adoption fee is $300.00, and a securely fenced yard and home visit are required. Please note your interest in Spenser on the application.

MacGyver

Macgyver

MacGyver is still looking for his furever home.  MacGyver came to us from a shelter near Austin where he was turned in by his owner. He’s about 4 1/2 years old, current on all vaccinations, neutered, microchipped and heartworm negative. He does have a slight skin infection and is finishing up his medication. He gets along well with people and other dogs.

If you’d like to adopt McGyver, please fill out an application at www.texasscottierescue.com and mention him by name in the comments section. McGyver’s adoption fee is $200 which covers his vet expenses and care.

Winston (now Angus)

winston after
winston afterA kind couple found Angus wandering the streets in San Antonio and alerted San Antonio Area Scottie & Westie Rescue. We think 4th of July fireworks scared this sweet fellow into running away from his home. When with SAASWR Rescue, he was called Winston. Efforts to find his owners were unsuccessful. Sadly, Winston was not microchipped, or his owners might have been located.

Winston took up residence in foster care at Doris’ where he enjoyed spending time with her Scottie Lucy. After a few weeks, he went to live with Charles in Leander.  Charles wrote after Winston had settled in: “We are doing very well. Winston, whose name is now Angus, is a totally different dog. He is very friendly and loving. He is still working on some of his fears, but is doing much better. He is still very shy when he meets new people, but warms up to them much faster than when I first got him. When I have to leave him for a short period, as when I go to the grocery store, he greets me as if I had been gone for a week or so.” We understand Angus had a little turkey on Thanksgiving.

Winston went to his new home with talents including being housebroken and able to use a doggy door, plus walking nicely on a leash thanks to a brush-up course from Doris. Of course, Winston was fully vetted by SAASWR, too. Thanks once again for your superb foster care, Doris! (Winston was posted on Texas Scottie Rescue Fund’s website and Facebook in July 2012.)

Charlie

Charlie

Charlie’s been adopted!   Charlie was found on I-35 near New Braunfels by some Good Samaritans.  He’s a sweet fellow and gets along well with people and other dogs.  He’s between 2-3 years old.  He comes when he’s called, is very playful and loves attention.  He’s housetrained, walks on a leash, and can use a doggy door.  He’s fully vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and heartworm negative.  Although he’s in good health otherwise, he had a serious skin infection and had lost about 50% of his fur.  The infection is gone now and he is regrowing hair all over.  You can see in the pictures how thick it is now on the top, but it’s just starting to regrow on his chest.  We’ve had very good success getting westies to grow back full coats with the right diet and care.
